The association of licensed merchant captains focuses on offering education to it's members and the public. Two courses are currently being taught:
The "First Mate Safe Return" course teaches how to manage a vessel if the principal operator is disabled. "How to Read a Nautical Chart" is also available for those who wish to navigate the Erie Canal, Great Lakes and beyond. This is "must know" information for anyone planning such trips.
